I was saddened to read that Carrie Snodgrass has passed away. Diary of a Mad Housewife is one of my favourite movies. It used to show up on television all the time but I haven't seen it in a few years.

SAN FRANCISCO - Oscar-nominated actress Carrie Snodgress, who left acting at the prime of her film career to raise a child with rocker Neil Young, died last week of heart failure at UCLA Medical Center. She was 57.

An Illinois native, Snodgress rocketed to fame after making her film debut as the cheating spouse of an insufferable attorney in the 1970 movie "Diary of a Mad Housewife," for which she received an Academy Award nomination.

Despite expectations of stardom, Snodgress dropped out of movies shortly after the film was released to live with Young. The pair had a child, Zeke, who survives her.

In 1978, the actress returned to the screen in Brian De Palma's thriller, "The Fury." She also appeared in Clint Eastwood's 1985 western "Pale Rider" and the 1998 Matt Dillon-Neve Campbell vehicle "Wild Things."

Snodgress, who was awaiting a liver transplant, died on April 1, according to reports.
