Cancon Thursday - Kaputt

Since I stopped listening to the news during the week day, I have been listening to old favourite songs. I need them to soothe my soul and keep me relatively sane.

During these weird days, I find myself going back to Destroyer's 2011 album, Kaputt. Today, for Cancon Thursday, I'm sharing the title track with you. Both this song, and the album, I can listen to endlessly.

If I have shared it before, well, I'm not really sorry about that so I'm not going to apologize. I just didn't really have the wherewithal to go back and check my archives today.

I hope you enjoy it, it's so good. The album is one of my favourites and I love this song (and video). I hope you're all keeping safe. Keep it up! Stay home, wash your hands, stay connected with each other but safely. This too shall pass. While we wait, be kind to one another and listen to some excellent music.

CanCon Thursday - Cue Synthesizer

This will be quick because I have a thing today.  I mean, I don't always need a lot of time and space to share a really great song with you, do I?

If you're a regular reader here,  you know that I've been looking forward to the late January release of "Have We Met" by Destroyer for a while now. As it's Cancon Thursday here, I thought I'd share the latest Destroyer song, Cue Synthesizer. This makes 3 songs which have been released and so far, I love them all.

Earlier this week Pitchfork published an article and interview with Dan Bejar (check it out: Destroyer's Dan Bejar Serenades the Apocalypse). It's really a great read and made me even more excited to hear "Have We Met" in it's entirety. 

For now, untitl thewe'll just have to be happy with Cue Synthesizer. Enjoy xo

Not Guilty Just Pleasure - It Just Doesn't Happen

It's Friday which means that I get to share any song I like just because I like it.  In the case of today's song, I LOVE it. It's another new Destroyer song, "It Just Doesn't  Happen" from the forthcoming album "Have We Met" (out on January 31, 2020 - mark your calendars!!).

If the opening lines of the song, "You’re looking good, In spite of the light" don't draw you in, well I don't know what will. I'm really excited to hear the rest of this record. I don't think I've been this excited about a new release since I heard that the Muffs were putting out a new record earlier this year ("No Holiday" - get your copy  NOW!!). For now, I just keep listening to this on repeat, it's one of those songs, for me it is anyway.

Give "It Just Doesn't Happen A Listen" and watch the video... it's intriguing and looks super Canadian. Happy Friday kiddos xo

Not Guilty Just Pleasure - Crimson Tide

I went to bed on Election day knowing that we'd have a minority Liberal government.  When I awoke the following morning, I was relieved that the country would not be lead by a hateful man. What we have isn't perfect but it's workable.

Shortly after that, I opened up my email and read some very happy news, a new Destroyer song had been released. Good good news indeed.  Since Tuesday, I've been completely obsessed with this song.  I absolutely love Dan Bejar's writing.  This song is beautiful and I'm so excited about the new album (entitled "Have We Met" and it's due in January) that I've already pre-ordered my copy.

Regarding the election results, I'll just say this.  I've grown weary of hearing folks say that the conservatives won the popular vote.  They did not.  If you add up all of the votes that were cast across the country for alternatives to the conservatives, that number is far more than double the number of votes that they received.  Folks said it loudly, they will note allow a party which supports hate, sexism, racism, transphobia, homophobia, everything-I-care-about-phobia, to run this country.  /rant

So today, I'm sharing "Crimson Tide" with you. This song makes me stupidly happy so if you enjoy it 1/4 as much as I do, you're going to have an incredible musical experience.  Hope you all have a great weekend kiddos xo

Cancon Thursday - Chinatown

So far, the only thing August is inspiring me to do is sleep more.

Well, it's suggesting that I sleep more but I've done really done that.  Instead, I'm getting up at my regular time but am wishing that I could pull the sheet up over my head and sleep just a little bit longer. So, for today anyway, some extra strong coffee is in order.

As today is Thursday, I'm once again going to be sharing a Canadian tune with you.  I have it in my head that I have shared this one before but I cannot find a post (honestly though, I only looked very quickly).  If I have shared it before and you're already bored of it, I'm sorry (not sorry) about that but I love this song.  In particular, I love this performance from the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival.

From the 2011 album, Kaputt, I'm sharing Destroyer's "Chinatown" with you today.  For me, this is one of those songs which can be listened to on repeat, almost endlessly.  It's a bit poppy and a little jazzy and it's sweet. I urge you to check it out and see if it catches your ear the way it did mine, it really is fun to listen to on repeat.

CanCon Thursday - Looters' Follies

After two solid weeks of Canadian music, you may have thought that it would be a challenge for me to find another beloved song by a Canadian artist.

Oh it's no challenge at all.  I love so many Canadian songs, it's easy to find another goodie to share with you.  Today, it's a live version of Destroyer's "Looters' Follies."

This is a favourite song of mine.  I don't generally read too much into lyrics but this seems like a big fuck you to critics and hipsters who can't make anything remotely resembling art but have no problem tossing shit at stuff they either don't like or don't get.  Mr Bejar is an amazing poet and I've yet to meet a Destroyer song that I couldn't get along with.
