Way Back Wednesday - Together Again

This could be a guilty pleasure song except I don't really believe in them anymore. Goodness knows that I did for a long time. I would hide my secret love for cheesey songs. No more!! Embrace the cheese, bring it into the light and share it with your friends!!

Today, I'm doing that, my Way Back Wednesday song is from 1997. "Together Again" was a pretty big single for Janet Jackson, from "The Velvet Rope." It's one of those songs that if I hear it being played, I'll stop and listen to the rest of it. I just plain old like this song for no particular reason.

As it's mid-week, if you're needing a tune to inspire you to have a little dance party at your desk or in your kitchen, this could be it.  Enjoy it kittens xo

There are times when I look above and beyond
There are times when I feel your love around me, baby
I'll never forget my baby
I'll never forget you

Because It's Tuesday - week of October 8

Hey kids.

So, it's finally looking and feeling like fall around here.  I love that.  Crunchy leaves, cozy sweaters, crisp air... not so much in love with the rain or the frost but you have to take the bad with the good right?

If you've been paying attention, you will have long ago figured out that I loved David Bowie and still listen to his music regularly.  Because it's Tuesday, I'm sharing a cover with you. As I'm sure you can imagine, because Bowie's songs are so excellent, they have been covered many many times but artists of all genres.  Today, I'm sharing a often covered song, Heroes.

This is Ted Leo's cover... it was released in 2016 as part of the "Let All The Children Boogie: A Tribute to David Bowie" compilation. Proceeds from the album went to the LGBTQ youth charity organization It Gets Better.

At times it's really tough to believe that Bowie is no longer with us, because his music is still everywhere.  Hope you enjoy this as much as I do xo

Though nothing will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, forever and ever
What d'you say?

Kim Shattuck

Normally on Thursdays, I share a Canadian song here.  Today's not a normal Thursday so I'll not be sharing a Canadian song today.

My head is all over the place this morning. I didn't sleep super well to be honest. Last night, I heard the sad news of the passing of Kim Shattuck (of the Pandoras and the Muffs... ) at the young age of 56.  Apparently, Kim had been battling ALS for the last two years. All night I kept waking up and thinking about Kim.

She was an incredibly talented songwriter, singer and musicians.  I had the good fortune to meet her a couple of times over the years and to see the Muffs a bunch back in the 1990's.  It's been sad and also heartwarming to read everyone's Kim memories today.

My heart and deepest condolences go out to her husband and her family, to Ronnie and Roy and Melanie... to everyone who loved her and loved her music.  We are lucky that she left us so much good music to enjoy (and a new Muffs record which is out later this month).

Thank you Kim, for everything xo

I don't know why you're so glad
When my head's filled with sorrow
So maybe if I fade away
There'll be no sad tomorrow

Way Back Wednesday - Put Your Teeth Up On The Window Sill

It's such a dark and dreary morning around here that I need something to perk me up.  More than coffee, although coffee is good, don't get me wrong. I needed some toe-tapping, kitchen dance party music.  Something that you can bop around the house to while you wait for that slow dripping coffee to get into your mug.

The thing that definitely helped my mood this morning is pretty awesome and I hope, if you're moving slowly too, this gets you going!  For Way Back Wednesday this week, I'm sharing "Put Your Teeth Up On The Window Sill" by Southern Culture on the Skids!!

This song was released in 1994 (again, what is up with 1994 and all of the good good music?) on their "Ditch Diggin'" album.  I found this incredible live version from 2010 and if this doesn't put some sunshine and a little boogie in your rainy morning, nothing will.

Enjoy and happy hump day kiddos xo

Because It's Tuesday - week of October 1

Happy October folks.

It's officially fall now and it feels like stinky summer today.  How the heck is it possible that the humidex is going to be in the low 30's today?

Because it actually feels like summer today, I'm going to share a very summer-y song with you.  It's an incredible cover of the classic Drifters song "Under The Boardwalk" by the always fantastic Undertones.

I've heard many many cover versions of this song over the years but this one has always been my favourite (well, always since I heard it!).  You can find it on their 1980 album "Hypnotised" (such a great record, also contains the hits "My Perfect Cousin" and "Wednesday Week").

Enjoy this last little bit of summer if you can and have some fun dancing around the house to the Undertones today xo

Oh, under the boardwalk
Down by the sea
On a blanket with my baby
Is where I'll be
