Because It's Tuesday - week of October 8

Hey kids.

So, it's finally looking and feeling like fall around here.  I love that.  Crunchy leaves, cozy sweaters, crisp air... not so much in love with the rain or the frost but you have to take the bad with the good right?

If you've been paying attention, you will have long ago figured out that I loved David Bowie and still listen to his music regularly.  Because it's Tuesday, I'm sharing a cover with you. As I'm sure you can imagine, because Bowie's songs are so excellent, they have been covered many many times but artists of all genres.  Today, I'm sharing a often covered song, Heroes.

This is Ted Leo's cover... it was released in 2016 as part of the "Let All The Children Boogie: A Tribute to David Bowie" compilation. Proceeds from the album went to the LGBTQ youth charity organization It Gets Better.

At times it's really tough to believe that Bowie is no longer with us, because his music is still everywhere.  Hope you enjoy this as much as I do xo

Though nothing will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, forever and ever
What d'you say?

Way Back Wednesday - Heroes

For Way Back Wednesday, I'm sharing an older song, one I really like by an artist I love and miss very much.

Thinking about it, the first time I remember be actually aware of who David Bowie was, I was 12  years old.  I had either snuck out of bed or begged my mum to let me stay up to watch Saturday Night Live.  Not for any particular reason other than it was on late and it was funny and I felt sort of grown up watching it.  David Bowie, with Joey Arias and Klaus Nomi, performed in a skirt.  I thought he was just about the coolest guy I'd ever seen.  In that moment, I became a massive fan of David Bowie.

Today, for Way Back Wednesday, I'm sharing the title track from his 1979 album, Heroes. I still listen to this and so many Bowie songs regularly, it's like he's still here.  Thank goodness for all of the wonderful music he left us xo

And the shame, was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them, forever and ever
Then we could be heroes just for one day

Because It's Tuesday - Week of October 2

Wow, it's October already.

Not that you needed me to announce it to know.  You can tell by the calendar and by the weather.  I actually really like October usually.  This October should be the same.  Lots of fun stuff is happening for me in October and I'm looking forward to it while, at the same time I'm not wishing it away either.

Back in 1983, the song I'm sharing with you today was a gigantic hit.  We were putting on our red shoes and dancing the blues let me tell you. David Bowie was everywhere it seemed.  One of my friends even convinced her folks to let her go to Toronto to see him on the Serious Moonlight tour (I don't think I even asked, my folks barely permitted me to go to shows in Kingston much less to travel all the way to Toronto, on a bus, alone).  I did get see him a few  years later, when parental permission was not an issue and he was on the Glass Spider tour.  But Let's Dance, the album and the song, they were in my WalkMan almost constantly!

M Ward covered "Let's Dance" a long time ago and it remains one of my favourite versions of the David Bowie classic.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I do xo
