I just had a four-day weekend. Ordinarily, I do try to book an extra day off when we have a holiday weekend but this past weekend was a bit different. See, this weekend, I had a cold. A nasty, yucky, head cold.
About 12 days ago, I started feeling sort of off. I had a headache for about three days and my eye was twitching. I just chalked these symptoms up to work stress (there is A LOT going on at the office right now) and sort of ignored it. I had to work last Saturday and when I got home, I started sneezing. Mark looked at me and said, “You’ve got a cold.” I protested though, insisting it was just my allergies playing up. The next morning when I woke up, I couldn’t breathe through my nose and realized he was right. All that day, my only day off, I felt like hammered crap. I took some ibuprofen, went to bed early that night and hoped for the best – I couldn’t be away from work last week. When I woke up the next morning, I felt much better. Still a little congested but totally functional. I went along about my business until Thursday when I started feeling like crap again, charming. My extra-day off was spent doing stuff around the house instead of being out and about, getting errands done.
Through the fogginess of the cold though, we got some stuff done around the house. While Mark was at work on Friday, I got some long overdue housework done, put up my Halloween decorations and caught up on some of my “guilty pleasure” tv (my DVR had a few episodes of the Real Housewives of New Jersey waiting for me). On Saturday morning, when I woke up, still stuffy and cold, it was a nice treat to sit in my clean living room, sipping coffee while it rained outside. I hate cleaning but I sure do love a clean room!
The rest of the weekend was spent doing work in the yard and more puttering around the house. We accomplished a lot. I saw “we” but most of the heavy lifting was done by Mark. There are still one or two small yard work things I need to do before we’re officially ready for winter but they should get done this weekend, weather and construction permitting. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll have proper water pressure and an actual driveway soon. This construction can be over any time now!

peeking sam
I have this weird thing happening that feels like a cold only it's strange. I have been coughing a bit and blowing my nose but I'm not super congested, I just have this weird taste in my mouth. I drink gallons of water, chew gum, brush my teeth but nothing makes it go away. It's odd and I'm not happy about it. I really don't want it to erupt into a full blown cold so I'm fighting it. Last night I got almost no sleep from the cold meds I took so I am not taking those tonight. It's a weird circle.
We're still introducing Sam to our friends. He's not overly crazy about men so far. Mark, he loves. My dad, he was indifferent to. On Saturday, Mark's friend Tom came over for coffee. Now Tom is both a smoker and a cat owner. Sam barked at him for a while but eventually he stopped barking and fell asleep on the floor in the kitchen where the guys were chatting.
Tonight, our friend Andy came over to help Mark measure up some stuff for a project we're starting on our deck. Sam was in the back yard when Andy got here. He and Mark went out onto the deck and Sam went bananas. Mark brought him back into the house and nothing I could do would calm him down. I guess it was partly because Andy is also a smoker / cat owner but also because he was caught off guard by having Andy walk into his yard. Normally, Sam's in the front window, keeping a watchful eye on the door and driveway. Maybe it was just the fact that Andy just appeared. Whatever it was, hope it passes. Poor Sam really got himself worked up into a state.
It feels like I only have doggy news these days but for the past week or so, that's really all we've had going on. I'm working pretty long days right now and between that, and the cold symptoms of the past few days, playing with the dog and doing some minimal housework is about all we've been managing.
I will say this, I love my white, fluffy dog but boy howdy, it takes me twice as long to vacuum as I used to and I do it twice as often. I'm not complaining though, just saying, really.

the boy done wrong again
Puttering is happening today. Yesterday's lazy day means that we needed to get stuff done today.
Mark did an amazing job on the fish tanks, I've been doing laundry. I really should be dusting the house from top to bottom but don't feel much like it. The house just gets so dusty when the furnace runs so much. I would love to have the house wide open today and be cleaning with a breeze blowing through. I can't wait for spring, really truly cannot wait.
Winter is boring, at least I'm bored of it. Seriously bored.

lay-zee
I had great intentions of getting up early and getting all kinds of things accomplished today but so far, not so good.
I've not done a whole heck of a lot besides sleep in and drink coffee. It is Sunday so that's the not worst thing I can do, I know...but I do need to get laundry done. Seriously.
This time of year is particularly weird on the old wardrobe. It's not quite warm enough to be wearing strictly summer clothes but it's not cool enough for sweaters. Layers is something that works on some days. I've still been wearing socks and shoes but I don't know how much longer that will go one.
I am not complaining though, I'm enjoying the weather. Just not loving the idea of pulling out the summer clothes and having to do all of that ironing again!!

sprung clean
Well, I got started on it today anyway. It felt so great to have the windows wide open and to get rid of some of the winter's dust and mess.
While I puttered in the house, Mark worked in the shed. It is a gross mess, much worse than I thought it would be. The squirrels chewed into a bag of cement, peed in it and than chewed on the pee cement. Gross huh?
Tomorrow, we both have a few little jobs to finish up. It feels really nice to be getting stuff sorted out. Mark even pulled out the patio furniture so we sat outside for a bit this afternoon. Over the winter, I really miss having coffee on the deck. Tomorrow morning though, finger's crossed, I'll be doing just that. Hurray for spring, finally!!
