It's a catchy piece of a poo but poo all the same. 90's poo. I don't know a lot about what the "hits" of the 90's were but this one got through somehow.
And... for some reason, whenever the video would be on tv "back in the day" I couldn't not watch it. Like a car crash.... "kiss me here, touch me there...hanky panky!"
Very sick, I have missed an whole week of work this week. I feel moderately better. Last night I took the garbage out. I managed to walk to the end of the driveway, carrying something, and wasn't sick to my stomach.
Progress - my friends, that IS progress.
Whatever I have, it's the worst thing I've ever experienced. Had it not been freezing rain on the weekend, I for sure would have gone to the ER because I was completely convinced that I was dying. Miraculously, because my roommate is an angel and got me gravel and hydralyte and all of the things that you need when you have this thing, I am getting through it, slowly.
My guilty pleasure this week is another George Michael song. I love me some GM. This song particularly makes me smile and dance around my bedroom (no dancing today but smiling I can do). I'm also envious of the folks who can go outside (not to have to sex outside, just to leave the house in general). One day I'll be able to join them, but in the meantime, I can listen to George, tap my toes and dream about fresh air and sunshine and a life without vomit.
I recently learned (in the last few years) that a good sized chunk of the music we were listening to during 8th grade is now categorized as "Yacht Rock." If I think about it, several songs did refer to being in some kind of boat on or near the water, I suppose it fits. A lot of the late 70's / early 80's radio friendly AM pop was pretty laid back.
Today's guilty pleasure is definitely laid back. Some of the guys in the band look like they were going to fall asleep during the video filming. Perhaps some of the Doobie Brothers had indulged in one too many doobies?
Either way, I really liked this song when I was in 8th grade and I still sing along to it whenever I hear it. I sing along to it very badly though cuz, who can sing as high as Michael McDonald (pun totally not intended)? yikes.
It should be said that Elvis Costello and the Attractions should never ever ever EVER be a guilty pleasure.
I have loved Elvis Costello with and without the Attractions for more decades than I care to admit. I was a bit gutted when I found out that he has nothing good to say about "Goodbye Cruel World," one of my favourite Elvis Costello and the Attractions albums. If you're curious about the background of the album, my brother turned me on to an episode of Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History podcast which explained the whole thing.
All of that aside, "the only flame in town," with it's cheesy duet between Elvis and Daryl Hall (!!) and the definitely 80's sax was, is and forever shall be a favourite song of mine.
Enjoy it, dance around if you want to and imagine how dreamy it would be to win a date with one o the boys in the band xo
so, if you have read this blog for more than 10 minutes you will know that I am old.
Officially 50. A centennial baby. Ancient.
I'm a fan of music but I have no clue what the "kids" are listening to these days. Do they even still listen to the radio?
Whatever songs are on the top 40 on commercial radio are a mystery to me (admittedly, they have been since the late 1980's but I'm absolutely okay with that!!)
Typically, I watch Saturday Night Live on Sunday mornings. On a recent Sunday morning, a young performer names Troye Sivan was the musical guest. I had no clue who he was but pretty much expected to fast forward through his performance. As it happened, I was folding laundry with a sleeping dog on my foot and the remote was not handy when he took the stage. I was very pleasantly surprised. I liked his voice, the song he was singing didn't bug my ass too much. I actually watched his second performance as well. He was a spritely little delight.
So today, I share with you, a new/recent guilty pleasure. I have no clue who Martin Garrix is (I actually do now know who Troye Sivan is) but here are Martin and Troye, "There For You."
Give it a chance kittens, you never know, you just might like it! xo
