Just some random thoughts on a Wednesday:
1. Regarding the weather: there is really no pleasing me. First it was too wet and now it's too humid. Does being Canadian give me a license to whine about the weather?
2. Laughter is the best medicine: because so much of what I am reading in the news lately is breaking my heart (trains exploding, flooding, random horrible acts of animal cruelty, children dying after eating their lunch at school, etc.), I've been listening to a lot of funny stuff to try to distract myself and create some balance. As you know, I'm a regular listener of Marc Maron's WTF podcast. Thanks to my brother, I have started listening to BTW with Jeff Garlin (thanks Patrick!!). In between, small doses of the Lonely Island and some 70's cheese, are helping to lighten the mood.
3. No Gleeks in our house: Am I the only person on the planet who had no idea who that dead Glee guy was? On Sunday, when I saw his name trending higher on Google News than Trayvon Martin, I thought he must have been someone important. When I read one of the articles, I quickly realized how wrong I was.

you may remember me
Hard to believe that it's been 14 years since Phil Hartman was murdered. Some of his "Troy McClure" lines are amongst the most often heard/said Simpsons quotes in our house, "You may remember me from such self-help videos as "Smoke Yourself Thin" and "Get Confident, Stupid"" or "Gay?! I wish! If I were gay they'd be no problem! No, what I have is a
romantic abnormality, one so unbelievable that it must be hidden from
the public at all cost." are just a couple...
I can't think of anything I ever saw Phil in that I didn't love, SNL, Newsradio, obviously the Simpsons and, of course, Pee Wee's Playhouse. I found this little clip of Pee Wee and Captain Carl, discussing women. Phil's legacy is huge, here's a small piece of it.

something about this corner
did you have a good snowday?
I went out and shoveled twice but it was just the porch, steps and walkway out front and the deck out back. Normally, I don't worry about the deck but we're in an out of there right now, with the dog so it needed some attention or it would have literally frozen closed today. the snow was up over the bottom part of the door when I cleared it up. This afternoon we have been experiencing some freezing rain action so it definitely would been impossible to get outside.
As it is, we cannot see out of the windows that are located on the northern and eastern sides of the house. It's sort of interesting. Our fabutastic neighbour Tommy plowed out the driveway so we're in pretty good shape.
As snowdays go, this was a good one. We did very little, watched some tv, vegged out mostly. It was nice. I also didn't do one thing that was on my weekend "to do" list but I still have 2 more days of weekend left to worry about that.
I really wish that they didn't have to bleep this (cuz it's just weird watching Sarah and hearing the bleeps - oh, and I because I think that censorship sucks) but it's still pretty funny.

team building exercise '99
Is it hot in your part of the world? I'm not talking about hot like attractive or sexy but hot like, the air quality is crappy and the sky is brown?
It's a little like that around here. It got quite bad last night. I think it actually got warmer as the evening progressed. Our house has central air but I couldn't get to sleep. We went to bed around 8:30 or so and I got up at 11 p.m. because I was afraid I'd wake Mark up with my tossing and turning. Eventually, I was able to fall asleep sometime around midnight. When you're up at 4:30 a.m. though, that's not really good.
Tonight we were able to get into the pool. It felt great. We hadn't been in the pool for almost 2 weeks. The weather while we were on holidays was cool and rainy. It wasn't like that this afternoon though. We stayed in for about 90 minutes so we were pretty shriveled when we got out.
Last week, while we were on vacation, we bumped into Flight of the Conchords. Have you seen this HBO show yet? The Movie Network is showing it here in Canada. It's brilliant. Well I think it's brilliant anyway. FOTC are a parody folk duo and HBO have given them a 30 minute comedy show. It's funny, we've seen 3 episodes plus their HBO special so far. The episodes usually feature a couple of songs. They are actually pretty good musicians and I like their voices. The best part is that it's hilarious. They write really funny lyrics and have a very laid back approach to things. It's very deadpan and dry and I am looking forward to seeing more of them over the summer. It doesn't quite make up for Lucky Louie getting canceled but it's close.
