Cancon Thursday - I Got You Babe

For today's Cancon Thursday song, I'm sharing "I Got You Babe" by Bahamas from the 2012 album, Barchords.

I'm keeping this short today. It's a busy day for me. I'm finally getting rid of my trusty old (2006) van and buying a new (2016) car. After work I'm picking it up and I'm pretty excited. This is the first time I'm buying a car on my own. Felt weird but good. I did a lot of research and think that I'm going to enjoy my new (to me), safer vehicle. Cleaning out the van last night felt strange because I found a bunch of things that I had no idea were even in there... tools, safety items, Mark's stuff. He was prepared for just about any car emergency we could have had. What a guy.

So, enjoy some Afie and have a good day (also, wear a mask!!) xo

Standing tall, I seemed to know it all
But the only thing I know is that
I've never known someone like you
I'm gonna figure out how it is

Cancon Thursday - Hockey Teeth

This week seems to be just flying by.  The whole summer has been doing that actually.

In a few days, our campus will be hopping again with students and parents, moving in to residence rooms, wandering around trying to figure out where to find their classes... September always feels like "new years" to me.  Lucky me huh? I get two fresh starts every year.

This year, once again, the fine folks at Tweed in Smith Falls are hosting their annual shindig.  I'm not able to make it this year but I really wish I could.  The headliner is Bahamas and Hollerado are playing too (actually, a whole bunch of other fab folks will be playing too - it's a FULL day of some pretty great music).  Tickets are stupid cheap, $15 and it's a super fun day.  Smith Fall is an easy jaunt from Ottawa or Kingston if you're interested.

So, as it's Cancon Thursday, I thought I'd share Hockey Teeth by Bahamas with you.  You can find it on Afie's 2009 debut album, "Pink Strat." Enjoy xo

Seems like we got in your car
And drove that car to the beach
And ever since that day
Never very far away, or out of reach

Cancon Thursday - No Depression

Well, it's the Canadian-ist day of the week 'round here, Cancon Thursday.

Fortunately, we live in a country which, while new by global standards, has a rich history of producing a lot of kick ass music.

The Juno Award nominees were announced this week.  Ordinarily, I pay little attention to things like awards because artists I like generally either don't get nominated OR if they do, never win.  That could change this year.  Three of my favourite 2018 releases are nominated for various things (the Barr Brothers for Queens of the Breakers, Destroyer for ken and Bahamas for Earthtones).

I hope that my liking them doesn't jinx them.

For this week's Canadian tune, I am sharing one which has a Juno nominated video (!!), No Depression by Bahamas.  If you haven't had a chance yet to listen to Earthtones, it's streaming almost everywhere and if you like it, buy a copy for pity's sake!!  I did, on vinyl, it's a great LP!

Enjoy xo
