Finally Friday - Falling Down The Stairs of Your Smile

I've had a heck of a week. I'm glad that it's finally coming to an end.

The other day, just as I was finishing up getting ready for work, I fell. I was in my bedroom, unsure if I tripped over something, but I ended up on the floor with a sore knee and a nasty-looking elbow. Later that day, I cut my finger (on the hand I landed on in the fall) while doing dishes. Definitely should have stayed in bed that day!!

Fortunately, except for some bruises, I'm okay. Thank goodness.

In honour of my less-than-graceful fall, I thought I'd share "Falling Down The Stairs of Your Smile" (it was a toss-up between this and "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" by Elvis Costello). The New Pornographers won because I love this video!! This song is on their 2019 record, "In the Morse Code of Brake Lights." ALSO - they have a new record (Continue as a Guest) coming out next week - I can't wait (I mean, I will obvs,, but you know what I mean, I'm excited about this new release).

Cancon Thursday - Myriad Harbour

Last year (2021), The New Pornographers were finally able to do their anniversary tour. Originally scheduled for 2020 (and postponed for obvious reasons), they were planning to do two nights in a handful of cities. One one night, they would play "Mass Romantic" (celebrating 20 years since it was released) and on the other night, they would play "Twin Cinema" (celebrating 15 years since it was released). Both albums would be played in their entirety in the first half of each respective show and the second half would be a collection of songs from their other albums.

Fortunately, they arranged for one of the Vancouver shows (from the Vogue Theatre) to be livestreamed. As soon as I heard that, I snapped up a ticket, it was going to be a "Mass Romantic" show - yay! For the Vancouver shows, Dan Bejar would be joining them - I was really looking forward to that!!

Most of the streaming events I have watched during the pandemic have been great. Every once in a while though, the sound isn't very good or the video is crappy. I was actually worrying a bit that this might happen again, spoiling the experience for me. I needn't have worried!! The platform they were using was terrific and the whole show was fantastic. I danced around my house while watching, so much fun.  I was almost beside myself with glee when I heard the opening for "Myriad Harbour" (today's Cancon Thursday tune). From the 2007 album, Challengers, Myriad Harbour is one of my favourite NP songs. I thought I would share it with you today. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Not Guilty Just Pleasure - Falling Down The Stairs of Your Smile

I had originally planned to share today's song with you last Friday (August 16).  Due to some stuff that I had going on, I never did hit send on last week's post.  Last Friday marked 4 years since
Mark died.

I had a pretty good day, a few moments were a little sad but overall I'd say it was not bad at all.  I'm in a really good place in my life right now.  I'm happier than I can remember being in a very very long time and I am making some pretty exciting plans for the future.  Life is good.  That is not something I would have been able to say 4 years ago.  Time does heal though and, if you're open to them, wonderful people and good stuff will come into your life.

Speaking of good stuff, have you heard the latest song by The New Pornographers?  It's called "Falling down the stairs of your smile" and I like it. It's from their forthcoming album  "In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights" (scheduled to be released September 27!).

Cancon Thursday - War On The East Coast

Happy Thursdays kids.

It's supposed to rain today but I hope the forecast is wrong.  It's been a wet, cold spring around here.  We have had one or two days of sunny weather but I would be happy to have a few more.

Last night, as I was pulling onto my street, the song I'm sharing today started playing in the van.  I had to sit in my driveway to finish listening to it because for me, it's one of those songs that must be listened to in it's entirety.

On Thursdays, I always share a  "Cancon" song.  Today's band is a super group of sorts and the membership includes folks from both north and south of the border but I always think of them as being Canadian. My pick today is War on the East Coast by the New Pornographers from their 2014 album Brill Bruisers.  I honestly thought that I'd shared it here before but I can't find a post about it so I may not have. 

In any event, I'm sharing it today because it's a great song.  Hope you enjoy War On The East Coast kiddos...stay dry today if you can xo

Cancon Thursday - War On The East Coast

Well we made it to the last day of February.

That was a slog huh?? And that snow last night didn't really make me jump for joy.  In fact, it made me a bit nuts.  I had two people (two different incidents) walk in front of my vehicle and was almost creamed by a guy making a left turn while I was going straight (I had the right of way but he didn't seem to be bothered by that).  Ordinarily those things aren't a big deal. Yesterday however, it was really cold and it was snowing while this was happening.  The cold roads plus winds plus quickly accumulating snow made for tricky conditions.  I was a very happy kid when I finally got home.

So today, the sun is shining, the roads are plowed... it's still cold but it's manageable and spring is around the corner.

Yay!

...and it's Thursday so I'm going to share a Canadian tune with you lovely folks.  The song I'm sharing with you today has been stuck in my head for a couple of days.  Not sure why but it has.  It's a pretty good earworm, as earworms go, maybe you'll get it stuck in your head too.  There are literally thousands of songs which are worse than this one for sticking in your head...

So, yeah, the song.  It's the second single from The New Pornographers fantastic 2014 album, Brill Bruisers.
