Way Back Wednesday - The Puppy Song

Well we made it this far so pat yourself on the back my friends... it's mid-week, hump day.... good old Wednesday.

Gracie
It's sort of dreary and really wet outside.  We had freezing rain earlier and then snow on top of it, a wonderful combination.

As I've been puttering around the house today, I realized that it was 2 weeks ago today that I said good bye to my little sheltie puppy girl.  It continues to be an odd adjustment for me to not have a little furry friend to be taking care of.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy spending time with the remaining two resident dogs (Bella and Sophie) who live in my house but it's not the same as it was with my Gracie.

In her honour, my Way Back Wednesday song is by Harry Nilsson...the Puppy Song.  Originally released in 1969, it had a resurgence in popularity when it was featured in the rom-com, "You've Got Mail." in 1996. I don't think that there is an official video for the song but this one features pictures of cute puppies.  Hope you enjoy it and if you have a wonderful furry family member, give them a squeeze and an ear scratch from me xo

The Days of the Week - (Thursday) Here's Why I Did Not Go To Work Today

Happy Monday folks.

Did you survive the weekend and all of the silly shopping shenanigans that were going on in the wake of the US holiday last week?

I'm not exactly sure how it all started to become a thing up here.  All of the promotion was a bit much if you ask me.  Not that you did.  Okay, I'm just going to say it, the emails and flyers and stuff just gets to me.  I think that the holidays should be about spending time with folks who you care about, maybe baking some cookies, having a nice meal, good conversation, music, laughter... make some nice memories and stay out of the mall.  Sound good?

Today is Monday so once again, I'm sharing a song with a day of the week in the title.  If I'm going in order, and I seem to be, we're up to Thursday.  My choice for a Thursday song is by Harry Nilsson, (Thursday) Here's Why I Did Not Go To Work Today.  It's a slow, lazy, smokey, Nilssony song as ever there was.  I really love the piano in this one and of course, those Nilsson lyrics are always excellent.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.  Happy Monday kiddies xo

Monday is a blues day that goes for Tuesday
Wednesday's just the middle of the week, yeah, mmm
Friday is just another payday, the weekend's just another heyday
But Thursday's surreptitiously unique.

straighter than narrow

This past weekend, I got a text from my brother telling me that he was watching a Harry Nilsson documentary on Netflix. In short order, I found "Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him)?" and we started to watch.

It was so good, a really lovely tribute to a completely under-appreciated artist. I was introduced to Harry Nilsson as a very little girl. We lived in a bungalow on Murray Place in Amherstview and shared our front porch with a very cool young couple named Mike and Jan. Mike was British and probably a bit of a hippy (this was the very early 1970's) and he introduced me to "The Point." Instantly, I fell in love with the song "Me and my Arrow" and would hum it for days. Much like the Beatles, Harry Nilsson was definitely a big part of the soundtrack of my early childhood.

Watching the movie, hearing all of those old wonderful songs again, made me realize just how big a part it was. I don't think any kid who grew up in the 1970's got out alive without singing about putting the "Lime in the Coconut" The current crew of little kids should probably listen to more Harry, he was a brilliant guy who was taken from us far too young.

happy hump day

may I offer you a cup full of childhood memories?

When I was really little (like from age 3 to 8) our next-door neighbour was an old hippie who introduced me to Harry Nilsson at an early age. Thinking about it now, this was the early 70's so he wasn't really that old...anyway...this was a particular favourite:
